LSU women’s basketball took the court for the first time this season in an exhibition game last week against Mississippi College. Inside the PMAC, the Tigers took care of business and got the win 148-46.
The contest was the first for several new additions to the roster, including MiLaysia Fulwiley. The transfer guard from South Carolina didn’t crack the starting lineup, but that didn’t stop her from putting on a show.

In 15 minutes of play, Fulwiley shot seven for 12 from the field. She finished with 17 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals. When she entered the game in the first quarter, Fulwiley wasted no time. She made a dazzling behind-the-back pass to ZiKiyah Johnson on the block for an assist, then with six seconds left in the frame, she stole an inbounds pass and laid it in for two.
According to head coach Kim Mulkey, Fulwiley needs to feel more comfortable at point guard before getting more playing time. She and Jada Richard are the two leading candidates for the role, and Mulkey said they’ll be on the court at the same time in certain instances.
All things considered, Fulwiley lived up to her billing as a highly touted transfer. Under Mulkey’s tutelage, she’ll continue to grow as a ball handler and leader on both ends of the floor.
