LSU administrators and university executives are holding high-level discussions over the future of football coach Brian Kelly, sources tell Yahoo Sports.
While there is no immediate resolution, the conversations — which involve the state’s governor — are ongoing.

Officials are considering various aspects in the decision on Kelly’s future, most notably the $53 million buyout of his contract, which is eased because of offset language (it is reduced by future work and would be delivered in installments over several years).
The situation in Baton Rouge is made more complicated as the university is searching for a permanent president (the school announced five finalists). In the absence of a president, Gov. Jeff Landry has become integral and is expected, if he hasn’t already, to meet with key donors and board members.
The Tigers suffered a blowout loss at home against No. 3 Texas A&M on Saturday night, giving up 35 consecutive points in the second half of a 49-25 rout. “Fire Kelly” chants rained down from LSU fans during and after the game.
The loss dropped LSU to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the SEC. The Tigers have now lost at least three games in all four of Kelly’s seasons with the team.
