LSU firing its head coach on Sunday doesn’t stop the recruiting wheel, and on Monday the Tigers landed a new 2026 commitment.
Three-star wideout Kervin Johnson Jr. flipped his pledge from Louisiana Tech to the Bayou Bengals after visiting over the weekend. He had been pledged to the Bulldogs since September 3, but received interest — an ultimately an offer from LSU’s staff on Saturday.

Not long after that happened, he made his decision to join the Tigers’ class.
Johnson joins LSU less than 24 hours after the program fired head coach Brian Kelly — owing him more than $50 million in buyout money — as well as offensive coordinator Joe Sloan on Monday morning.
But the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder wants the chance to play in the SEC and for whichever new coaching staff ultimately arrives in Baton Rouge.
He ranks as the nation’s No. 310 wide receiver and No. 58 player in Louisiana, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.
