Opening Odds: No. 7 Ole Miss favored by double digits at home vs. South Carolina

A massive win on the road against top 25 Oklahoma moved Ole Miss up one spot nationally, and now it has a potential November to remember starting with South Carolina.

FanDuel Sportsbook opened with the No. 7 Rebels (7-1, 4-1 SEC) as a -13.5 favorite over the Gamecocks (3-5, 1-5 SEC) which is coming off a brutal home loss to No. 4 Alabama. The line has moved slightly to -12.5 though the vast majority of the bets and money are on Ole Miss thus far as of Tuesday afternoon.

Stats show 84 percent of the money bet against the spread has been on Ole Miss while 70 percent of the bets total are on the Rebels. On the moneyline, Ole Miss sits at -520 while Sakerlina is +385 with an over/under set at 54.5. For the season, Lane Kiffin and his squad are 5-3 against the spread while Shane Beamer’s bunch are at 4-4.

It’s very likely I say some of the same things every week about this team, but it is just the truth. I’m not sure how the Rebels will do coming off an emotional win in Norman to really solidify its chances for a College Football Playoff appearance. On the flip side, the Gamecocks may be completely mentally and physically wiped from losing a late lead to the Crimson Tide in front of its home crowd last week.

It can cut both ways. There’s every reason why the Rebels should come out to a full stadium with a night-time kickoff against a team that has struggled to finish off wins and blow them out. Put the Gamecocks to bed and then have a little more of a relaxing week against the Citadel on Nov. 8 before two final games to cap off the season and maybe make its first CFP appearance.

Or this scrappy USC team comes in pissed off as all hell it didn’t get the job done last week and sees Ole Miss as a more beatable team than Bama. This is the same Gamecocks program that the Rebels DEMOLISHED last year in Columbia.

From everything I have heard from sources in Oxford, it can be tough to get really amped every week of the season for your opponent especially those ranked outside the top 25. Example one being Washington State, but the Rebels haven’t had another flat game since. It certainly can’t afford one now.
