It was an uppercut, too, with Ohtani himself on the mound. Guerrero launched a two-run shot in the top of the third inning of Game 4 at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday. He enjoyed the view, too, strolling out of the box while he watched it soar into the left-field bleachers to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead.
The home run made Guerrero the Blue Jays’ all-time postseason leader with seven, passing Joe Carter and José Bautista. Guerrero also extended his club record for homers in a single postseason.
After Ohtani completely took over Game 3, reaching base all nine times in the Dodgers’ 18-inning win, the Blue Jays needed an answer. At this point, the only way to beat Ohtani may be fighting fire with fire, and Guerrero is the Blue Jays’ best bet, their own superstar with an entire country watching on.
Guerrero has never been more important to the Blue Jays than he is now, especially after George Springer left Game 3 with right side discomfort and was left out of the starting lineup for Game 4. This allowed Bo Bichette to slide into the DH spot, where his left knee injury could be less of an issue, but this lineup now needs to produce without Springer, who has been this team’s heart and soul in 2025. Big games from Guerrero are the easiest way to make that happen.
This was Guerrero’s first home run since Game 6 of the ALCS against the Mariners back in Toronto at Rogers Centre, but as we’ve seen in this postseason, when Guerrero gets hot, it can happen in an instant and completely take over a series.
