Jannik Sinner continues from where he left off. The brilliant Italian beat his opponent Zizou Bergs at the Paris Masters 6-4, 6-2 with a phenomenal performance. The Italian tennis player, after winning the Vienna Open, is focused on a new challenge, aware that he has a great chance to lift the trophy again.
Jannik reflected on his performance on the court, saying that movement was the key to his success. This tournament has historically brought him difficult moments, but this time Sinner remained focused, obviously prepared for this tournament.
“I felt like mostly the movement [was good],” he said, as quoted by the Tennis Up To Date.
“Usually I always struggled a bit here, so I’m very happy to come through the first match. I’m very happy how I served today. I was very precise, and I also started off with a break straight away, which gives you a bit more confidence. I’m very happy about today’s performance.”
Tennis court and challenges
The young tennis player was dominant in various aspects, being especially strong on his first serve.
During the interview, Jannik looked back on the surface in the new Paris-Bercy hall, saying that the court is truly unique. He also shared the opinion of his colleagues that the balls go fast, but they don’t bounce as much.
This tournament shows how important it is to adapt to the conditions, regardless of how dominant a player you are.
“It’s a very unique court here,” he said. “With new balls, the ball still goes quite fast, it’s not as bouncy, but then after the ball gets quite big and slow. That changes the timing a little bit.”
Such conditions suit some players more than others, but if you want to make a big step and reach the final, it is important to adapt to different conditions.
Jannik Sinner now has a great chance to triumph again, but he doesn't want to look too far ahead, as his focus is on his next match against Francisco Cerundolo.
