GothamChess Vs. The World Hits 200,000 Players And Counting

by

GothamChess vs. The World has blown past previously-established records and continues to set new ones, with now more than 200,000 players having joined in. That total is nearly 40% more than the previous record, which was set during Magnus vs. the World, which itself more than doubled the earlier Vishy vs. the World.

When establishing the new record at 144,000 players, Gotham vs. the World had just begun. Now, the game is approaching the 20th move, and the excitement and tension remain. Most of the minor pieces have been traded, but material remains equal as both sides jockey for the best position for the pieces still on board.

Chess.com’s WIM Ayelen Martinez and NM Dane Mattson, continue to advise the World Team. “It’s an honor to play with our community team in this historic match against Levy,” Mattson says. “The record-breaking community participation is already in full swing with several dramatic voting adventures—and we’re just getting started!” The World’s 17th move, c5, followed an especially intense discussion and close vote that exemplifies the engaging and competitive nature of the game to date.

There’s still a lot to play for, and it’s not too late to join the fun for as long as the game is still going! Just click below if you haven’t yet.
