She has looked in exceptional form in the ongoing edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and smashed back-to-back sensational tons in the semi-final and the final.

After smashing 169 runs against England Women in the semi-final, Laura Wolvaardt continued her good form and punished the Indian bowlers. She batted exceptionally well despite not getting much support from the other end and hit a century off 96 balls.

She looked totally set in the middle to steer the Proteas to a win, but Deepti Sharma didn’t let that happen. On the first ball of the 42nd over at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, Deepti Sharma dismissed Wolvaardt.

Wolvaardt played a slog-sweep off Deepti Sharma and got height but not much distance with the ball going at deep midwicket. Amanjot Kaur came in running for the catch, and she nearly made a mess of it.

The ball popped out of her hands, but after juggling it several times, she managed to hold onto the ball with one hand to complete the catch and send back the Proteas skipper for 101 runs. That catch turned out to be a game-changer and helped India Women’s win their first-ever World Cup.

We all are very positive – Amanjot Kaur

Speaking ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 final, Amanjot Kaur said that the mood in the Indian camp is quite positive. She also revealed that conversations were pretty normal in the dressing room before the final.

“We all are very positive (mood in the camp) and very excited, but it’s raining outside and we are holding our nerves. We are just finding something to do. We are getting bored and we are really excited to step out right now. So yeah, it is pretty positive. I was not nervous (emotions when she hit the winning runs in the semi final), but I was just waiting for my turn. I didn’t want to leave,” she said.

“As I left in the England match, I took it too deep. And then the Australia game, I left seven balls for someone else. So I wanted to finish it and I am glad I did it. And plus, Jemi’s knock was commendable and Harry (Harmanpreet) di’s knock was pretty amazing. The way she played her innings and those cameos by Deepthi, Richa. And then I finished it. I am glad I finished that. Wonderful atmosphere. The crowd went crazy.”

“(Conversations heading into this game) Pretty simple conversation. We said, yes, we have done it. We have won against Australia, but we need to leave it there only. That is done and now we have to focus on the final against South Africa. So we have to be here in the present. So we are not thinking too far ahead, but we want to be in the present right now.”
