Jade Roghair, Katie McCarthy Lead Minnesota Past Iowa

Jade Roghair and Katie McCarthy won two events each as Minnesota topped Iowa, 190-109, on Friday night.

Roghair went 10:04.07 in the 1,000 freestyle, then 4:53.53 to win the 500 free, both times with teammate Anja Kaljevic. McCarthy went 1:49.98 to claim the 200 free and capped the meet with a win in the 200 individual medley at 2:01.65.

Minnesota won both relays, with Livi Wanner, Ava Yablonski and Morgan Thomas on both squads. Thomas won the 100 free with a time of 50.79 seconds. Yablonski was second in the 100 butterfly.

Kamdyn Periat clocked in at 55.05 seconds to win the 100 backstroke. Kiera Mullins followed with a win in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.60, and Rachel Conley followed with a victory in the 200 fly in 2:00.88. In the back half of the meet, Elise Jacobs’ time of 2:00.26 in the 200 back to augment wins by McCarthy and Roghair. Elna Widerstrom swept the diving events with a score of 330.10 on 1-meter and 342.40 on 3-meter.

Iowa picked up three wins, the Hawkeyes’ strength primarily in the sprints. Payton Flowers was the standout, going 23.02 to win the 50 free and then 54.20 to win the 100 fly. Olivia Swalley won the 200 breast in 2:17.86. She was also second in the 200 fly and second in the 200 IM in a busy evening.
