SEC Football Standings Week 11

by

Greetings, BBN!

Georgia beat Florida in Jacksonville, Ole Miss took care of business against South Carolina, Texas edged Vanderbilt in a ranked-on-ranked battle, Oklahoma did the same against the other Tennessee school, and Mississippi State and Kentucky got their first league wins against Arkansas and Auburn. The total tally of fired SEC coaches has now reached four and we still have a whole month of season left to play!

Let’s take a look at the standings heading into Week 11:

Notes:

  • Georgia cannot make the SEC championship game if Texas A&M and Alabama both win out, and neither can Ole Miss, but Texas controls their destiny since they have head-to-head games coming up with Georgia and Texas A&M.

  • Only one team is still winless in the conference—the Arkansas Razorbacks. Mississippi State beat them on the road by three to get their first SEC win in 17 tries, and Kentucky beat Auburn on the road to get their first SEC win in 11 tries.

  • The first CFP rankings come out Tuesday night. After those are released the 7-2 teams and 6-2 Missouri might be able to figure out how they can squeeze into the field if they run the table.

  • Four of Georgia’s SEC wins have been by ten or fewer points, and most of them have involved them trailing in the fourth quarter. Saturday’s game against the Gators was another escape act, and put them one step closer to a CFP berth.

  • Next week Kentucky has a chance to turn one win into two with a home game against also 3-5 Florida. Too bad Florida’s already fired their coach, because UK could get two canned in two weeks if not.

  • Kentucky’s win over Auburn vaulted them from 16th to tied for 13th, even though it was just one game. The bottom five of the league is really putrid, and hasn’t beaten any teams above them! The four teams with one win all got that win against each other or Arkansas!
