Adrian Yanez made some changes in hopes of returning to the win column at UFC Fight Night 264.
Yanez (17-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) meets Christian Quinonez (18-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) on Saturday’s prelims (ESPN+) at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. After a 5-0 start in the UFC, Yanez has lost three of his past four fights.
That’s why the 31-year-old Texas native decided to cross train at Fortis MMA under the guidance of coach Sayif Saud.
“I’ve been switching up some camp stuff here and there and been working with guys at Fortis and everything, working with coach Sayif,” Yanez told MMA Junkie Radio. “But yeah, pretty much I just needed to change up a little things because you can’t keep doing the same thing expecting different results. Haven’t had the best couple of years so needed to make a change.”
Yanez said training at Fortis MMA brought out the best of him. He shared the advice that the no-nonsense Saud gave him.
“The biggest thing is just realizing how good I was everywhere,” Yanez said. “Once we had the first couple of training sessions, he was just looking at me a lot differently in the sense of, ‘Man, you really have limited yourself on tools,’ and I need to stop being a pocket knife and be a Swiss army knife where I use all my tools correctly.”
