We are back for another week discussing bowl teams. Our team at Mountain West Connection will be releasing our bowl projections each week. This week’s round of projections can be seen below and will likely change as the season progresses. Read our projections below and leave your own in the comments.

Los Angeles Bowl: San Diego State

Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii

Potato Bowl: UNLV

New Mexico Bowl: Boise State

Arizona Bowl: Fresno State

Guaranteed Rate Bowl: New Mexico

College Football Playoff: N/A

Other Bowl (TBD): Utah State

Same teams, but in a different order. San Diego State looks like the best in the Mountain West, mainly on the strength of their defense. Boise State and UNLV are struggling and at least one of them will end up in a disappointing bowl game. Six teams are now in, with one or two more a strong possibility.

Outside of San Diego State now becominng the heavy favorite for the Los Angeles bowl, these are all a bunch of random guesses thanks to the crazy guesses thanks to the unexpected results of this past weekend. I think there is still a decent chance the Broncos play in the championship game, even if they drop one more game.

Other Bowl (TBD): San Jose State

The dream for eight teams who are bowl eligible is alive. Assuming all get a bid, the Aztecs enter the college football playoff picture. They run the table, UNLV is the runner-up, and bowls are assigned pretty much geographically. San Jose State becomes eligible but is relegated to a to-be-determined bowl due to their loss to Utah State.

I will roll the dice on Utah State getting two more wins. Boise State losing Madsen might be the key loss San Diego State needs to win the conference.

Six teams are now locks for bowls, and three more teams are within three wins of a bowl, all without any overlap in their schedules. I actually think San Jose State has the best chance of going despite being three wins away. The Spartans play the defenseless Air Force and an atrocious Nevada squad, plus a home rivalry tilt against Fresno State in the season’s final game. Utah State, despite being two wins away and playing the sentient free win that is Nevada, plays the Aztecs, Rebels, and Broncos to close the year, all of which I think will be losses. As for Wyoming, they have a unique situation, with only three games to play. Even with one of those games being against Nevada, road games against the Bulldogs and Rainbow Warriors don’t look promising for a team that has not won a road conference game this season.
