How MiLaysia Fulwiley fared in LSU women’s basketball debut

In her first official game as part of LSU women’s basketball, MiLaysia Fulwiley lived up to the hype as a dynamic scorer who improved on both ends of the court in the offseason.

The former South Carolina guard led all scorers with 21 points in the 108-55 win over Houston Christian inside the PMAC on Tuesday. Fulwiley shot eight of 14 from the field while also coming away with seven steals and four rebounds through her 21 minutes of play.

When Fulwiley subbed in during the first quarter of Tuesday’s game against Houston Christian, she made her presence felt immediately. She knocked down a three-pointer and scored on a fast break in the frame in addition to coming away with two steals. At the end of the first half, she had 10 points on 50% shooting and five takeaways.

Head coach Kim Mulkey put Fulwiley in at point guard with the starting five coming out of halftime. Again, Fulwiley got off to a hot start. She scored the Tigers’ first six points of the third quarter while also adding a rebound and a block.

While Tuesday’s contest was against a lower-level opponent far below LSU’s talent level, Fulwiley showed out as a spark off the bench and in the starting lineup on both sides of the ball. She worked well with the Tigers’ returning backcourt duo of Flau’Jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams.
