5-Star Guard Austin Goosby’s commitment is coming to a close as he announced a final 4 of BYU, Texas, Baylor, and Duke. He will make his announcement November 14, during the November 12-19 early signing period.
BYU offered Goosby nearly one year ago and has made him a top priority since. Goosby is the best LDS player in the 2025 and has become very familiar with BYU and Kevin Young. He took an unofficial to BYU in early March and attended the BYU-Utah hoops game in Provo, took his official visit to BYU in late September, and attended the BYU-UNC exhibition in Salt Lake City a couple weeks ago. BYU’s staff also paid Austin an in-home visit in early September.

Duke had a lot of momentum after their visit in August, but based on conversations I’ve had I believe Texas is the favorite, BYU is second, and Baylor is a darkhorse third. I’ve heard over the last month that Goosby and Duke aren’t likely.
BYU has some things going in their favor. Austin is LDS, he and his family have developed a great relationship with Kevin Young, he has extended family in Utah, and he’ll have a great chance at early playing time. Texas has longed been a favorite and have a lot going in their favor as well. Austin comes from a Longhorn family, his brother plays offensive line for the football program, his girlfriend plays for the Longhorns softball team, and Sean Miller has made Austin a priority since he got the head coaching job. Baylor I think is third, but I’ve been told for months that they are a darkhorse and to keep an eye on Scott Drew’s program.
BYU currently has three commitments in the 2026 class — Dean Rueckert, Will Openshaw, and KJ Perry. Openshaw will serve a mission first and Perry will enroll mid-year and is expected to redshirt. Big man Abdullah Ahmed is visiting BYU this weekend.
