After missing the first seven games of the 2025-26 season, San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox is reportedly planning to make his season debut on Saturday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Fox missed the start of the season with a hamstring injury sustained during the offseason. Per Charania, Fox has been ramping up this week in preparation for his return.

The game will be Fox’s first since receiving a massive contract extension with the Spurs in August. Fox reportedly signed a four-year, $229 million extension with the team, six months after the guard landed in San Antonio as part of a three-team trade.
Fox averaged 23.5 points per game last season as a starting point guard, first with the Sacramento Kings and then with the Spurs. Fox’s hefty extension served both as a reward for his play — Fox led the team in points per game last season after star center Victor Wembanyama was ruled out with deep vein thrombosis — and as a bet that he could be a building block around Wembanyama in the future.
Wembanyama returned in full form at the start of the season. The 21-year-old big man is averaging 25.6 points per game and 12.9 rebounds per game (third in the NBA) while leading the league in blocks.

San Antonio is currently 5-2, after two straight losses to the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers. The loss to the Lakers was a particularly brutal one, as the Spurs had multiple chances to come out on top before L.A. ended with a two-point win. Wembanyama also fouled out in the contest.
In that loss, seven different Spurs finished with double-digit points. Fox has a chance to come in as another top scorer alongside Wembanyama, with the balance to help San Antonio keep the season going strong.
