by

The 6th Islamic Solidarity Games officially opened today, Friday, November 7, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with competitions set to run until November 21, 2025. The multi-sport event brings together over 3,000 athletes from 57 Islamic nations competing across 23 sports at world-class venues throughout the Saudi capital.

ITTF President Petra Sörling attended the opening ceremony, highlighting table tennis’s continued presence at the Games since its debut at the inaugural edition in Makkah in 2005.

Saudi Arabia’s hosting marks exactly 20 years since that first edition, where athletes from across the Islamic world gathered in unity. The Kingdom’s return as host underscores its leading role in promoting solidarity among Islamic nations through sport.

Table tennis has been a fixture at all five previous editions of the Islamic Solidarity Games. The sport has seen strong competition from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Turkey, and Arab Republic of Egypt – the leading medal winners across the Games’ history.
