The Giants will have a new set of pitching coaches in 2026.
J.P. Martinez won’t return as the club’s pitching coach after accepting a new role as the bullpen coach of the Braves, ending his five-season run in San Francisco. Garvin Alston also told the San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser on Friday that he won’t be back for a third year as the Giants’ bullpen coach.
Martinez initially was hired to serve as an assistant pitching coach on Gabe Kapler’s coaching staff in 2021, but he stayed on after Melvin joined the organization in October 2023. Martinez was elevated to pitching coach after his predecessor, Bryan Price, stepped down last year, and he oversaw a Giants pitching staff that ranked 10th in the Majors with a 3.82 ERA in ‘25.
The only addition to Vitello’s staff thus far is reportedly former Padres manager Jayce Tingler, who is likely to replace Ryan Christenson as the Giants’ bench coach.
