Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova captured their second WTA Finals title, and first since 2022, on Saturday in Riyadh, defeating Timea Babos and Luisa Stefani 7-6(4), 6-1 to lift the trophy.
After a break of over two years, the 2022 WTA Finals champions reunited in April of this year, and went on to win the Wimbledon title this summer.
Babos, who won three straight titles at the WTA Finals with Kristina Mladenovic, was back in the finals for the first time since, alongside Stefani, the first Brazilian to play a final at the WTA Finals.
They weathered a trade of breaks in the opening set and took the tiebreak, 7-4, before racing out to a 3-0 lead in the second set and earning the double-break for 5-1.
They served out the title in the next game, finishing their victory in one hour and 39 minutes.
