“I thought we played well in all phases,” coach Kelly Graves said. “Defensively, maybe we gotta make some adjustments but I thought by and large it was a really good night.”

Five players scored in double figures for the Ducks: Katie Fiso (10), Sofia Bell (10), Elisa Mevius (10), Ehis Etute (12) and Avary Cain (11). UO shot over 50% from the field while holding the Grizzlies to 35% shooting.

Oregon women’s basketball wears Montana down with tempo, depth

The Ducks scored 23 points off 23 Montana turnovers, and 47 of their 90 total points came from the bench.

“Our two biggest strengths are depth and pace of play and they go hand in hand,” Graves said. “They got tired in that second quarter. They don’t have the same kind of depth that we do and that really showed up in the second quarter and it continued the rest of the game.”

Oregon outscored the Grizzlies 23-8 in that second frame, not letting off the gas until well into the fourth quarter.

Fiso again helped the Ducks get into their offense, scoring 10 points while dishing out five assists at lead guard. Mevius, who starts alongside Fiso and helps initiate offense, scored 10 points and had three helpers. But Etute and Bell were the primary beneficiaries of those assists. Bell went 2 for 3 from the 3-point line and Etute had seven rebounds to go along with a team-high 12 points.

Though the Grizzlies were never really in the game Saturday afternoon, Graves lamented Oregon’s play on the defensive boards at moments.

“We got to get a little better on the defensive boards,” Graves said. “We should’ve outrebounded that team by a little more than we did.”

The Ducks had 37 rebounds to the Grizzlies’ 31 and had just a 25-21 advantage on the defensive glass. Against a taller and more athletic team, UO might run into some trouble if they can’t secure a possession on defense.
