Lando Norris can take a significant stride towards the driver’s championship in Brazil, after winning the sprint race and securing pole in qualifying.

It’s been a weekend to forget so far for his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who crashed out early in the sprint and then came fourth in qualifying. He trails Norris by nine points in the driver’s championship, but remains defiant about his chances.

“I’ve still got the belief I can go out and win races and win the championship, but things are not coming as easy as I’d like at the moment,” Piastri said after qualifying.

Max Verstappen said he harbors no hopes of a championship, after a disappointing qualifying in São Paulo. The Red Bull driver crashed out in Q1 on merit for the first time in his career, qualifying in 16th place.

He will start the Grand Prix from the pit lane with a fresh engine and a new set-up to his car.

Meanwhile, Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton dubbed the Grand Prix as “another write-off weekend” in is season, after finishing seventh in the sprint and qualifying only in 13th for the race. His teammate Charles Leclerc came third in qualifying.
