Lady Vols defeat UT Martin basketball in Pat Summitt Heritage Classic

No. 9 Tennessee (2-1) defeated UT Martin (0-2), 72-61, Sunday in the Pat Summitt Heritage Classic at Kathleen at Tom Elam Center in Martin Tennessee.

The contest was named in honor of former Tennessee head coach Pat Summitt, who played for the Skyhawks.

The game was tied, 33-33, at halftime after the Lady vols led, 18-17, at the end of the first quarter.

Nya Robertson totaled 17 points, three rebounds and one assist for Tennessee, while Jaida Civil recorded 13 points, five assists, two rebounds and one steal.

Talaysia Cooper had 10 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal for the Lady Vols, who led, 52-46, at the end of the third quarter. Zee Spearman finished with nine points, eight rebounds, two steals and one block.

The Skyhawks’ Grace Billington had 20 points to lead all scorers in the contest. She also recorded eight rebounds.

Tennessee next plays Thursday versus Belmont. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. EST at Food City Center. The game will be televised on SEC Network.
