2027 four-star LB Taven Epps decommits from Texas

The Texas Longhorns lost their only pledge in the 2027 recruiting class on Sunday when Tustin (Calif.) linebacker Taven Epps decommitted.

The 6’4, 220-pounder opted to make an early decision, committing to head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff in April following an unofficial visit to Austin after taking a game-day visit for the program’s first SEC game against Mississippi State.

Keeping Epps committed throughout the cycle was always going to be difficult as offers kept coming in and he opted to camp at Alabama and to visit North Carolina, Ohio State, and USC. Georgia, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma are also in the mix for Epps.

A consensus four-star prospect, Epps is ranked as the No. 100 player nationally and the No. 7 linebacker, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Now without a commitment in the 2027 class, the Horns are behind other top programs like the Sooners (six commits), Aggies (five commits), and Buckeyes (five commits).
