Colombia came out on top against Mexico in Medellín on Saturday. Played at the Estadio Cincuentenario, Los Tucanes were 34-25 winners. The South America vs North America fixture was part of the blossoming relations between Mexico and Sudamerica Rugby.

The match itself featured plenty of tit for tat. The teams exchanged scoring with Colombia opening with a try to scrum-half Oscár Forrero before Mexico responded with a penalty. Then from there both teams ran in tries to see Colombia holding a 12-10 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

Mexico went ahead to claim the lead on 39 minutes from na lineout to maul try. However, the direr-half scoring was not over yet. Colombia responded with a try of their own as a wayward kick was punished with center Daniel Villa scoring.

Despite having ball-handling and discipline problems, the half-time scoreline favored the Colombians by 17-15. Replacement hooker Juan Alzate extended Colombia’s lead after the interval. A second Tucanes’ try followed before Mexico hit-back with three tries to set-up a thrilling final quarter with Colombia leading 29-25. The match went down to the wire with Colombia scoring a late try to finish on a high.
