It was a banner week for the ACC to kick off the 2025-26 basketball season. A new season, new coaches, new players, and an elite freshman class headlined the first week. In addition to the ACC going 35-1 last week, the league featured five of the top seven freshman performances nationally.
Two of those players, Virginia Tech’s Neoklis Avdalas and North Carolina’s Caleb Wilson, were honored by the ACC on Monday. Avdalas and Wilson shared honors as the ACC Player of the Week and ACC Rookie of the Week.

Wilson, a 6-foot-8 freshman forward from Atlanta, averaged 23 points, 5.5 rebounds and three assists in UNC’s wins over Central Arkansas and No. 19 Kansas.
Avdalas, the 6-foot-9 freshman point guard from Greece, averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 assists per game in Virginia Tech’s wins over Charleston Southern and Providence. Avdalas scored 33 points in Saturday’s 107-101 win over Providence, shooting 13 of 23 from the floor and five of eight from 3-point range.
Congratulations to Avdalas and Wilson.
The Hokies are back on the court on Wednesday when they host Saint Joseph’s. We should learn a lot about the 2025-26 Hokies as they lost to Saint Joseph’s by 20 points last year.
