Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire takes shots at Notre Dame for its independence

by

You’d think that after last year’s College Football Playoff, and Penn State’s James Franklin questioning Notre Dame’s independence, that coaches would stop entertaining the idea.

Well, Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire was asked about BYU, who was independent, joining the Big 12 and took shots at the Irish. While he didn’t name them specifically, he definitely implied that he was talking about Notre Dame, saying “I have a lot of respect for them entering a conference and not playing an independent schedule like other people. Y’all ready know who that is, and so I have a lot of respect for that. They’re earning their right just like everybody but a couple of people. They’re earning their right through conference play and playing in some tough places.”

While it most likely won’t happen to McGuire, he should remember that Franklin’s downfall started with a loss to the Irish in the CFP, which could happen once again. It would be some great drama is these two teams would see each other in the playoff, and could settle it on the field.
