There’s nothing quite like ruining the vibes of an outstanding early season win over a Blue Blood like injury news. Not even 48 hours after the Tar Heels had finished putting away the Jayhawks, UNC announced that Seth Trimble had injured his forearm during practice on Sunday, and it would require surgery. While a timeline isn’t certain, there is some speculation that he could be back for the start of ACC play.
This, of course, changes the tenor of the rest of the non-conference slate. Thanks to the move to an 18-game ACC schedule, the Tar Heels won’t have the usual early December contest against an ACC foe that they’ve had to deal with the last few years. It means that they’ll face all of their opponents before conference play without the experienced defender and driver in Tremble. In a weird way, it does provide a huge amount of opportunity as that’s one less guard to take the floor and allows for all of the new additions to get used to how Hubert Davis wants to play. This experience will be valuable when Tremble returns, and with any luck it will mean he can be eased back.

Someone who doesn’t seem to know the phrase “ease back” is Caleb Wilson. The electric freshman was the talk of the win over Kansas and shared ACC Player and Rookie of the Week awards with Virginia Tech’s Neoklis Avdalas. He’s quickly seized the spotlight for the team as a whole as he was credited for Friday night being a whiteout, and then got to announce the new Blue Out for tonight’s game.
You’d think that they would want to save it for a bigger game, but it’s also possible that the win on Friday has awoken a spirit that hasn’t been seen on campus in a few years. You’d want to keep building that atmosphere, and there don’t appear to be any more marquee games in Chapel Hill until the ACC season starts.
Speaking of the ACC, the conference’s network that is owned by ESPN will be Carolina’s home for the next few games. The next three games will be there, and if you’re a YouTube TV subscriber you’re still suffering the effects of the dispute between Google and Disney. If you’re a subscriber and haven’t seen it yet, you won’t get your $20 credit automatically. You can click this link and that should help you claim it quickly. In the meantime, you’re still going to need to find alternate ways to watch this and the two games after that as this standoff continues. Services like Fubo offer a free week, which if you signed up for last week to watch the Kansas game you’re still in.
