Michigan State basketball picked up a NCAA Tournament resume-boosting win last week so it’s only fitting we saw them get a bump in the latest batch of bracketology from ESPN.
Joe Lunardi released his latest update to bracketology on Tuesday, which saw the Spartans moving up. Michigan State came in as the No. 5 seed in the East Region in Lunardi’s most recent projection for the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

Michigan State is projected to play No. 12 seed Akron in a first round matchup being played in San Diego. If the Spartans were to win this projected NCAA Tournament matchup, they’d face the winner of No. 4 seed Iowa State and No. 13 seed UC Santa Barbara in the second round.
Michigan State is off to a 2-0 start to the season, with wins over Colgate and previously-ranked No. 14 Arkansas last week. The Spartans are next set to play San Jose State on Thursday.
