by

EAST LANSING — An opening week of the season that featured a historic scoring performance has played a part in the Michigan State women’s basketball team jumping into the top 25 of the USA Today Coaches Poll for the first time this season.

The Spartans (2-0) are ranked No. 24 in this week’s rankings ahead of a week that features a Nov. 12 matchup against Youngstown State and a Nov. 16 contest against Western Michigan. MSU was receiving votes just outside the top 25 in the preseason coaches poll.

MSU, which is also ranked No. 24 in the Associated Press poll, opened the season last week with wins over Mercyhurst and Eastern Michigan. The Spartans set a program record for points in a game in their 125-39 season-opening win over Mercyhurst on Nov. 4.

Jordan Ode to redshirt

Freshman guard Jordan Ode has not appeared in any of the first two games this season and MSU coach Robyn Fralick said she is being redshirted. Ode was the 2025 Miss Basketball winner in Minnesota after starring at Maple Grove High School. She was ranked the No. 33 recruit nationally in the 2025 class in the ESPNW HoopGurlz rankings.
