Australian lock Steve Cummins leaves Dragons early

Veteran lock Steve Cummins has made an early exit from Dragons.

The 33-year-old joined from French Top 14 side Pau in the summer of 2024, but made just six appearances for the Rodney Parade club.

The 6ft 7ins Australian forward was under contract until next summer but an agreement has been reached to end the deal early and he is expected to move to an overseas club.

Dragons head coach Filo Tiatia said: “Steve’s experience and professionalism have been an asset to our playing group throughout his time with us. He has been a pleasure to work with.”

Cummins was behind Ben Carter, Matthew Screech, Seb Davies and Levi Douglas in the pecking order at Dragons, with young locks Nick Thomas and Barny Langton-Cryer also on the books.

His only appearance of the season was on loan for Scarlets, who he played for 46 times between 2017 and 2020, in their United Rugby Championship loss to Stormers in Llanelli.

Dragons’ next fixture is against Leinster in Newport on Friday, November 28 (19:45 GMT) when they will be without their internationals who play for Wales against South Africa the following afternoon.
