PHILADELPHIA — Hugo Gonzalez sprained his ankle in Tuesday’s Celtics game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Gonzalez played just under 6 minutes in the game before going down with the injury late in the third quarter, tallying 5 points, 2 rebounds, and a steal.
The Celtics announced Gonzalez was questionable to return shortly after he headed to the locker room. But, midway through the fourth quarter, they upgraded his status to available.
The 19-year-old has had a strong start to his rookie campaign; he leads all rookies in defensive rating and has averaged 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. He’s appeared in 9 games so far this season, averaging 13.7 minutes per night.
