On Sunday, USC women’s basketball earned its first signature victory of the 2025-2026 season, taking down a top-10 North Carolina State team in Charlotte. As a result, the Women of Troy moved up six spots in this week’s USA TODAY Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll, rising to No. 10.
In the preseason poll, the Trojans came in at No. 16. After knocking off the Wolfpack, however, the Trojans jumped ahead of Duke Tennessee, TCU, Michigan, Ole Miss, and Notre Dame.

However, NC State is still one spot ahead of USC in the rankings, sitting at No 9. If only there was a way for voters to determine which team is better? Maybe a game between the two on a neutral court or something?
At the end of the day, however, early season polls do not mean all that much. The Trojans will have numerous more opportunities to improve their resume throughout the season by beating elite opponents. The next such opportunity comes on Saturday night, when USC will face No. 2 South Carolina at Crypto.com Arena (a.k.a Staples Center) in Downtown Los Angeles.
