The Rhode Island Rams overcame a slow start to notch their third win of the young season on Friday, Nov. 14 at the Ryan Center.
Myles Corey scored a team-high 19 points to lead the URI offense in the 80-61 victory over Albany. Tyler Cochran finished with 18 points, six rebounds and three steals, and Jahmere Tripp added 16 points and five rebounds in the win.

The Rams were trailing by nine points early, but stepped up their defense and were solid at the free-throw line to turn the tide on the visiting Great Danes. Rhode Island converted 16 Albany miscues into a 21-11 edge in points off turnovers.

“We got to lock in early defensively and let that carry into our offense,” Corey said about the team’s slow start, and eventual turnaround.
The trio of Tripp (8-for-8), Cochran (8-for-9) and Corey (5-for-5) went 21-for-22 at the foul line, and the three combined for 53 points. Overall, URI was 25-for-28 at the line (89.3 percent) and the Rams defense held their opponents to 37.7 percent shooting from the field. Mouhamed Sow and Damone King combined for 10 points off the bench for the Rams.

For Albany, Amir Lindsey scored a team-high 19 points and Zach Matulu added 14 in the loss.

Friday marked the first meeting of the Rams and the Great Danes, who are now 1-3 after losses to Marquette and UMass. Albany was picked to finish second in the America East preseason coaches’ poll, with Lindsey named to the All-Conference Team.
Rhode Island improves to 3-1, counting wins over Stetson and Stonehill, while falling to Tulsa at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The Rams will play their first true road game of the season on Nov. 18 when URI visits Yale.
