Noè Ponti Secures Golden Double & Angelina Patt Lowers Swiss 50 Back Record

Noè Ponti scored a freestyle/backstroke double and Angelina Patt lowered the national 50 back standard on day one of the Swiss s/c Championships in Uster.

Ponti started off with the 50 back where a fine underwater phase helped propel him into the wall in 23.32 ahead of Roman Mityukov (23.82) and Noah Ruben Retzler (24.58).

Ponti then returned for the 50 free in which he enjoyed victory by some distance in 21.21, 0.03 off his national record from 2024, and enough to secure a place in both events at the short-course Europeans in Lublin next month. Mityukov took second once more in 21.85 with Ashton Balint (21.95) third.

Ponti, who won 50/100 fly silver at the Singapore worlds this year, didn’t compete in the 100 in Uster. Victory went to Leo Verschooten who secured the title in 52.66.

Patt had already gone inside the 50 back cut in the prelims before she stopped the clock at 23.04 to pen a new entry in the Swiss record books, taking 0.23 off Nina Kost’s previous standard that had stood since 2018. Malika Gobet (27.63) and Chiara Strickner (27.87) completed the podium.

There was a Djakovic family double in the respective 400 free races. Antonio was up first in the men’s event in which he comfortably claimed the title in 3:41.65. Sister Vanna then won the women’s event by more than five seconds in 4:08.26 as she took went inside the cut.

Marius Toscan won the men’s 400IM in 4:09.15 to book his place on the plane for Lublin.

The European Short Course Championships run from 2-7 December in Lublin, Poland.
