Lincoln Riley, USC show their resilience against Iowa in Lincoln Riley “culture win”

by

On Saturday, the USC football team defeated Iowa 26-21 at the Coliseum. With the victory, the Trojans improved to 8-2 and 6-1 in Big Ten play.

The game did not start out well at all for USC. The Trojans trailed 21-10 at halftime, and it was looking like it was going to be a long afternoon at the Coliseum. However, USC responded, outscoring Iowa 16-0 in the second half to come back and win the football game.

It was truly, as head coach Lincoln Riley described it, “a culture win.” USC faced real adversity on Saturday, going behind by multiple scores against a very good opponent in bad weather conditions. However, the Trojans did not let that hold them back, Fighting On with an impressive second half performance.

Obviously, USC will need to play a more complete game against better opponents, including next week at Oregon. However, that should not diminish what the Trojans accomplished on Saturday.

USC teams of year’s past almost certainly would have lost this football game. To see the Trojans show resilience and find a way to come back and win an ugly game is a great sign for not just this season, but the future of the program under Riley.
