FSU basketball plays its best game of the season thus far, but not enough to beat Indiana

by

Florida State women’s basketball (3-2) suffered its second loss of the season after coming up short against Indiana, 76-72, during Natasha Howard’s retired jersey night at Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.

FSU was missing its top scorer, Sole Williams, as he recovered from an injury she sustained in the last game against Nicholls State.

She was surely missed as the Seminoles had a struggle shooting performance, only making 25 of their 63 shots and two of their 14 three-point attempts.

Despite being on the losing side of the game, head coach Brooke Wyckoff was pleased by the efforts of her Seminoles as they kept it a tight ball game throughout the night.

“You can see it. I would take that team that was out there, our team, any day of the week,” Wyckoff said after the game.

“That’s how they are going to play. We’ll fix the mistakes and will get better, but that pride that they had in how hard they played the entire game, that’s what it has to be.”

Senior guard Sydney Bowles led the Seminoles with 19 points and four assists, Jasmine Shavers added 16 points and six rebounds, and Pania Davis picked up 12 points and seven rebounds.

FSU was trailing the majority of the game, but not by a lot. It was not halfway through the third quarter when the Seminoles picked up momentum offensively when they went on an 11-0 run and led as high as nine points, 54-45.

FSU’s lead wouldn’t last as the Hoosiers crawled right back and took over in the fourth quarter, outshooting the Seminoles 26-16. Lenee Beaumont led with 23 points and 3 for 3 from behind the arc. Shay Ciezsk added 22 points.
