No. 3 Texas A&M (10-0, 7-0 SEC) enters Week 13 as the only undefeated team in the SEC after defeating South Carolina 31-30 in one of the craziest comebacks in both program and SEC history. Leading 30-3 at the half, South Carolina had every chance to lead Kyle Field with a win, but thanks to Texas A&M’s elite defensive effort, paired with QB Marcel Reed’s elite second-half performance, the Aggies pulled off the impossible.
However, the culture head coach Mike Elko has established in the locker room has continued to pay dividends, while Marcel Reed’s steadfast leadership and ability to improve in-game were seen during the Aggies’ poor first half against LSU, which resulted in a 49-25 road win over the Tigers. Combined with a defense that shut out the Gamecocks, allowing just 76 yards in the second half, outside of the slow starts, this is the formula that could lead Texas A&M to its first National Championship since 1939.

Already a virtual lock to make the College Football Playoff, what scenario needs to occur for Texas A&M to make its first SEC Championship Game in program history? Thanks to the GigEm247 beat writer Carter Karels for confirming, the Aggies need to beat Samford and the Texas Longhorns on the road to make it to Atlanta, or need Alabama to lose to Auburn AND Ole Miss to lose to Mississippi State during the final week of the regular season.
After the Longhorns’ 35-10 blowout road loss to Georgia, Texas needs to defeat Arkansas and Texas A&M to have any shot of making the CFP, and will likely need several to lose in the final week, as no three-loss team has ever made the CFP in its history.
