Jannik Sinner's season ended in the best possible way, confirming to everyone that the Italian ace is the best player in the world in indoor conditions. The world number 2 – protagonist of a simply incredible season although he was unable to play from February to May – has not lost an indoor match for exactly two years, when he was defeated by Serbian legend Novak Djokovic in the final of the 2023 edition of the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin.
The 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria confirmed the title he won in front of his home fans at the Inalpi Arena, beating world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz in yesterday's final at the end of an electrifying battle. These two players have once again shown that they are clearly superior to the competition and their fight for the leadership of the ATP rankings will continue in 2026, with the 22-year-old Spaniard 550 points ahead of the Italian star.
Sinner is unstoppable
Jannik and Carlitos will also play an exhibition match in Seoul on January 10, 2026, which will be a test to assess the shape of both before the Australian Open. The four-time Grand Slam champion has prevailed at Melbourne Park in the last two editions, while the champion from Murcia has never gone beyond the quarterfinals in the first Major of the season.
Speaking on the latest edition of the show 'La Domenica Sportiva', Italian legend Adriano Panatta commented on Sinner's triumph at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin: "The match was very balanced as it almost always happens between these two players, with Jannik making the difference in crucial moments. Both have played excellent tennis and are destined to dominate in the near future."
Panatta believes that Sinner can achieve the 'Calendar Grand Slam' one day: "I think he has a better chance of doing this feat than Alcaraz. The Italian ace is competitive on all surfaces and I am convinced that Darren Cahill has decided to stay in his team because he believes that this goal is achievable."
