Lady Lions celebrate 50 years with win against Lady Knights

The Lady Lions celebrated 50 years of basketball Saturday with the introduction of the four state finals teams from 1981, 1985, 1993 and 2010. Special recognition was also given to the only two coaches in program history – Coach Cinda Rice Brown and Coach Melissa Winkler.

Members and coaches of the four teams were joined on the floor by other Lady Lions in attendance to cap the celebration.

After honoring those successful teams between the junior varsity and varsity game, the Lady Lions went out and posted a 66-19 victory against South Dearborn.

Rushville improves to 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the EIAC. South Dearborn falls to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the EIAC.

Rushville jumped out to a 20-2 lead after the first eight minutes and extended the lead to 37-9 at the half. After three quarters, Rushville led 57-11.

For the Lady Lions, Carly Senour led the way with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and five steals. Makenna Ripberger added 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Charlotte Caviness was also in double figures with 11 points, one rebound, one assist and one steal.

Becca Tabeling had eight points, three rebounds and two steals. Mikayla Herbert scored seven points to go with three rebounds, one assist and two steals. Charli Marcum added four points, three rebounds, five assists and four steals. Kelsey Morgan had three points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Melaney Mahan and Taylor both scored two points. Mahan also had four rebounds and one steal, and Taylor had one rebound.

The junior varsity Lady Lions fell to Union County 35-17. Jerrica Taylor had five points, six rebounds and one steal. Emily Rouse tallied four points, two rebounds and two steals. Haylie Tucker had three points and two rebounds. Jasmine Taylor had two points, six rebounds and one steal.

Elaine Angle scored two points. Molly Corn had one point and three rebounds. Jennifer Ballenger grabbed two rebounds, and Ryli Whaley added three rebounds and two steals. Annie Buzzard had two rebounds.

Rushville travels to Mt. Vernon Friday.
