Everything you need to know for Notre Dame basketball home game against Bellarmine

by

Welcome to bounce-back season, Notre Dame basketball.

The Irish weren’t going undefeated in 2025-26. The Irish aren’t going 18-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. There are going to be struggles. There are going to be setbacks. There are going to be times when Notre Dame must flush the frustration of letting a possible win get away and focus on the next opportunity.

Noie: How one shot, one win, helped slingshot Notre Dame basketball into two decades of success

All of that is true this week as Notre Dame looks to bounce back from Sunday’s near-miss at Ohio State with a home game against Bellarmine (1-3). A trip to Las Vegas and the Players Era Festival next week beckons. Can the Irish again be good at home and handle business?

Bounce-back season demands it.

How does Notre Dame respond to its first loss, a game it should have won, Sunday at Ohio State?

Sophomore Cole Certa scored a career-high 22 points in the opener against LIU Brooklyn but has a combined six points in the three games that have followed. It’s time for a bust-out game from the shooting guard.

Notre Dame has averaged 89.6 points in its three home games (wins) to date with an average margin of victory of 23.3 points. Continue to play that way and the Irish soon may see fewer empty seats at Purcell Pavilion.

Keep an eye on …

Bellarmine F Jack Karasinski

Anytime anyone at the collegiate level regardless of conference affiliation can get you 20 points a game, it gets your attention. Karasinski has the Irish attention.

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound wing forward from Grand Rapids, Michigan by way of William and Mary is averaging a team-best 21.3 points with 5.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 27 minutes. He’s shooting .550 percent from the field, .313 percent from 3 and .682 percent from the foul line.

Karasinski, who ranked in the Top 10 in the Atlantic Sun last season for points (15.4), field goal percentage (.531) and free throw percentage (.773), had 23 points and four rebounds in 28 minutes in Saturday’s loss to Wofford.

Having played AAU with the Indy Heat, he’s no stranger to many in the Irish program.

Notre Dame G Markus Burton

The junior guard and the Irish would like to have back the final 90 seconds in Columbus. On the final three possessions, Burton took the only shot on all three. He missed all three, including what would have been the game-winning 3 with one second left.

Burton continues to lead the Irish in scoring through four games (18.0 ppg.) but needs to improve other numbers — seven assists to 10 turnovers, .306 percent from 3, 13 fouls in four games — to be an elite guard in an elite league.
