If Shami manages to continue his sublime form in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 for Bengal, it will put him back into the spotlight and could earn him a place in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at home and in Sri Lanka.

Notably, the Indian fast bowler was overlooked for the England and Australia tour and then for the recent Test series against the West Indies at home and now for the ongoing Test series against South Africa as well.

Now, it remains to be seen whether Shami’s Ranji heroics could earn him an ODI spot back for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the Proteas side, starting on November 30.

Shami was last seen in action for the Men in Blue during their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph in the UAE earlier this year.

After his 2023 World Cup heroics, Shami had been troubled with injuries, which impacted his form, and he lost his place in the Indian side across the formats.

However, it is also being said that some of Shami’s public statements about his fitness have not sat well with the BCCI and Indian selectors, leading to his continuous omission from the side.

The senior pacer was expected to travel to England, but his refusal to play for India A also impacted his chances.
