One Warriors assistant coach could soon be on his way to the WNBA.

Chris DeMarco, who has spent the last 14 seasons with Golden State in different roles, has emerged as a serious contender for the New York Liberty coaching job, The New York Post’s Madeline Kenney reported Tuesday, citing multiple sources.

DeMarco, a four-time NBA champion, is among the several finalists for the gig.

In addition to primarily running Golden State’s defense under Steve Kerr, DeMarco also has served as head coach of the Bahamian’s men’s national team since 2019.

If DeMarco moves to the Big Apple under the new role, he would become the third NBA assistant to be named the head coach of a WNBA team over the past two seasons (h/t Yahoo! Sports).

And that apparently is what the Liberty are looking for. Per Kenney, New York has prioritized candidates with NBA backgrounds, in addition to a blend of modern and innovative views on the game.

Back in September, New York announced it would not renew coach Sandy Brondello’s contract for the 2026 WNBA season.

Brondello led the Liberty to their first WNBA championship the season prior, but the team struggled with injuries throughout the 2025 season and was booted in the first round of the playoffs.

Now, the Liberty are focused on filling the void and getting back to championship contention. DeMarco, being with the Warriors for more than a decade, has plenty of championship experience to back up his resume.
