Wisconsin basketball transfer Daniel Freitag is turning heads with his play to start the 2025-26 season. Now at Buffalo, Freitag is averaging 21 points, 3.4 rebounds and three assists and shooting 45.8% from the floor and 39% from 3 through five games, all of them wins.
Notably, that points-per-game tally is just second in the MAC, behind Kent State’s Delrecco Gillespie (21.7 points).

The former Badger’s best performance came in his team’s narrow 94-90 win over Vermont on Tuesday. In 38 minutes of action, Freitag tallied 33 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals on 50% shooting and 44.4% from 3.
Freitag originally joined Wisconsin as a four-star recruit in the class of 2024, ranked as the No. 119 player in the country, the No. 12 point guard and the No. 3 recruit from the state of Minnesota. He played sparingly during his one year with the program, averaging just 2.1 minutes over 14 appearances. The top high school point guard then entered the transfer portal after the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. His choice of Buffalo has already paid dividends, as he’s quickly captured a leading role in the starting lineup and is turning into one of the conference’s top scorers.
