Chris Jericho’s future in professional wrestling may be uncertain, but Tony Khan knows exactly where he wants it to end—and he didn’t mince words when asked about the veteran possibly walking away from AEW.
In a new interview with Adam’s Apple, the AEW President was directly asked about Jericho’s legacy and whether he’d be okay with the former world champion finishing his career somewhere else. Khan responded with a clear message about his hopes for Jericho’s retirement:
“I absolutely—I’ve loved having Chris here and I love Chris in AEW and outside of the ring. So, Chris is a great part of the company. We love having Chris in AEW, and I would say that absolutely I would love it if Chris’s final matches—eventually, whenever Chris someday would want to hang it up—were in AEW. But I also don’t think Chris is really near that point. He’s had a great run with us, continues to be a big part of AEW, and I love Chris in and out of the ring.”
The statement came amid renewed speculation about Jericho’s status after he made a cryptic comment on his Talk Is Jericho podcast, saying he’s just going to “see what happens.” That, paired with him abandoning a trademark and removing AEW branding from his next Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager cruise, sparked talk of a potential WWE return.
Still, Khan sounded confident that Jericho isn’t done in AEW yet—and made it clear that, whenever that time comes, he wants the last chapter to be written under his watch.
