Lacey Lane isn’t holding back when it comes to her experience in WWE.
During a new interview with Denise Salcedo, the former WWE star revealed just how defeated she and Katana Chance felt behind the scenes—despite constantly showing up, pitching ideas, and trying to evolve. According to Lane, the writing was on the wall long before their releases.
The most painful moment came during their return on SmackDown in the UK. Lane recalled the emotional aftermath backstage, where both women broke down in tears because of how helpless the situation felt.
“It just felt like we were set up for such failure… we tried to do our best to do whatever and it just felt like we were just set up just to fail. It was like the hardest thing.”
She says that moment wasn’t an isolated one—it was the reality they faced throughout their run. No matter how hard they worked or how much they contributed, the opportunities rarely came, and when they did, they felt like traps.
“We have to always work so hard to make something out of nothing. We have to go out there and kill it in three minutes or whatever situation they put us in.”
Lane and Katana were far from complacent. They weren’t relying on social media clout or waiting for a push—they were actively pitching, training, and adjusting their styles just to stay in the game.
“We gave paragraphs and weeks and weeks of ideas. We tried to change ourselves. We tried to change our moves. We tried to do anything possible to give ourselves a better opportunity.”
Despite all the praise they got from producers and peers backstage, it never translated into long-term momentum.
“Everyone in the back was so supportive. It was crazy… but if you’re just not the picked people, that’s just how it is. You could work so hard and it just not be in your favor.”
For Lane, it wasn’t just about being booked—it was about making a real difference in women’s tag team wrestling. She made it clear that this wasn’t a vanity project or a placeholder act. Their goals were bigger than just TV time.
“We weren’t just two people stuck together. We wanted to be one of the best tag teams that ever existed. That was a true goal of ours.”
She said their passion was rooted in teams like The Usos, New Day, The Jumping Bomb Angels, and The Hardys. They didn’t just want to be in a division—they wanted to build it.
Now on the other side of her WWE release, Lacey Lane is determined to remind the world of her worth—not just as a tag team star, but as a singles competitor with something to prove. WWE may not have picked her, but that doesn’t mean she’s done.
