Lacey Lane isn’t staying quiet when it comes to critics who claim she lacked personality during her WWE run.
During a conversation with Denise Salcedo, the former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion pushed back hard against thatand pointed to one major reason why fans never got to fully see who she was—because WWE never let her speak.
While some fans took to social media to dismiss her and tag partner Katana Chance as style-over-substance due to their popular TikTok videos, Lane explained that it was actually the opposite. TikTok was her only platform to show fans her real personality.
“People say we have no personality—how, if we’re never handed a mic?… It’s not like you handed us a mic and told us to say—or like allowed us to say—anything.”
Even when they were handed a line, it wasn’t authentic.
“When you have a promo and they’re just like, ‘Yeah, like we got her back,’ how is that any of our personality? That’s not what I would choose to say.”
So when people assumed they were just coasting on choreography and Instagram aesthetics, Lacey found it frustrating.
“If you’re not given the opportunity, people just automatically go, ‘Oh, no character, no personality, no this.’ And I’m like, okay, whatever.”
Her viral videos weren’t a distraction from wrestling—they were a way to stay connected and relevant when WWE didn’t give them real screen time.
“For me, [TikTok] has always been an outlet because I know that I’m fun. I know that I like to have fun. I know that I’m goofy. I know that I’m serious. I know that I’m a lot of things—because I’m extra.”
And to anyone suggesting TikTok doesn’t belong in the wrestling world, she had one last reminder:
“What do you think wrestling is? It says it in its name—entertainment.”
Lacey Lane may not have been given the mic in WWE, but through her own creative grind, she made sure her voice was heard anyway.
