Sung-Mun Song posted for MLB free agency

by

Infielder Sung-Mun Song, one of Korea’s best hitters over the past two seasons, will have a chance to pursue an MLB opportunity this offseason.

The Kiwoom Heroes of the Korea Baseball Organization are set to make Song available via the posting system on Saturday at 8 a.m. ET. Once he’s posted, Song will have until Dec. 21 at 5 p.m. to reach a deal with an MLB team. If he doesn’t come to an agreement by that deadline, he’ll return to the Heroes for the 2026 season.

Song, 29, made his KBO debut as a teenager back in 2015 but took some time to fully blossom. He played only 226 games for the Heroes from 2015-19 before missing all of ’20 and part of ’21 while fulfilling his military obligation. Song worked his way into an everyday role with the Heroes upon returning but had a sub-.700 OPS in 2022 and ’23.

Song finally broke out in 2024, slashing .340/.409/.518 with 19 homers, 104 RBIs and 21 steals. He followed that up with a .315 average, 26 homers, 25 steals and a .917 OPS in 2025.

A left-handed hitter, Song primarily has played third base in his KBO career, but he also has some experience at first and second. During his time with the Heroes, he was teammates with several players who have since made the jump to MLB, including Ha-Seong Kim, Jung Hoo Lee and Hyeseong Kim.
