5-star Georgia commit makes recruiting history

by

The Georgia Bulldogs earned a major recruiting win in July when elite defensive line recruit Valdin Sone announced his commitment. The 6-foot-3, 310-pound defensive lineman recently earned a fifth star ahead of the early signing period.

Sone’s ranking is historic because he is now the first ever European five-star recruit. Sone was born in Sweden and plays high school football for Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Virginia.

The Georgia commit is a Navy All-American Bowl participant and is ranked as the No. 28 recruit in the country. Sone is the second-ranked defensive lineman in America and the third-ranked recruit in Virginia. He joins quarterback Jared Curtis as Georgia’s two five-star commitments in the class of 2026.

Sone has taken a unique path to being a five-star. He is of Cameroonian descent. He grew up playing soccer while practicing ju-jitsu and taekwondo. In April 2024, he helped Sweden win the 2024/25 IFAF European Junior Football championships, producing two sacks and a fumble against Denmark in a standout championship performance.
