Velveteen Dream Crashed Two Cars While Battling Substance Abuse in WWE

by

Velveteen Dream is opening up about the chaos behind the curtain during his time in WWE, and he’s not sugarcoating anything.

In a new interview on The Pope’s Point of View, the former WWE star reflected on the reckless behavior that nearly cost him his life—and how getting too much, too young pushed him over the edge. Dream revealed that at just 19 years old, he was making $4,000 a week with no responsibilities and no real guidance. That freedom led to destructive habits, including drug use and car crashes while under WWE contract.

“I was making 4 grand a week before I got released. I had crashed TWO cars when I was down there, okay? I had developed a very unhealthy desire for partying, staying up late, and illegal substances.”

He said the environment around him was filled with people hyping him up, with no one offering the support or tough love he needed. Dream admitted he didn’t trust anyone to guide him, and he’s now asking people to understand what it was like to be in his shoes.

“So I implore you, the viewer, to take a second and think: what would you have done as a 19-year-old with disposable income, no responsibility, and the world at your fingertips? And the people that you admire telling you that your s** don’t stink. Not fair to judge.”*

This follows a recent comment where Dream stated he would have died from drug usage had WWE not released him. While he doesn’t seem interested in public sympathy, he’s making it clear that early fame and unchecked praise were a dangerous combination for someone so young.

Dream’s story is a reminder of the darker side of pro wrestling’s spotlight—where money, fame, and no accountability can derail even the most promising careers. Whether fans accept his explanation or not, he’s now owning the fallout.

Do you think Velveteen Dream is genuinely trying to turn a corner, or is this just another attempt to rewrite his past? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know where you stand.
