The New York Mets and Texas Rangers appear to be switching things up: The two teams are finalizing a trade that would send second baseman Marcus Semien to New York in exchange for outfielder Brandon Nimmo, per multiple media reports, including Yahoo Sports’ Russell Dorsey.
Details on what other players might be involved in the trade are unclear. The deal requires full agreement from Nimmo, who has a no-trade clause in his contract, and Nimmo has reportedly agreed to waive the clause, per The Athletic.

Both players are represented by the same agent, Scott Boras, with both currently in the middle of long-term contracts.
Semien joined the Rangers on a seven-year deal in 2021, with the contract set to go through 2028. Semien will earn $72 million over the next three seasons, per Sportrac.
Nimmo, who has spent his entire major league career with the Mets, signed an eight-year, $162 million deal with New York in 2022 that runs through 2030. He is owed $20.5 million annually on that contract.
Semien, 35, is coming off a down year after suffering a season-ending foot fracture in August. The second baseman batted a .230/.305/.364 line across 127 games with 15 homers, and also earned his second Gold Glove award. Semien is a three-time All-Star and won a World Series championship with Texas in 2023.

Nimmo has yet to win any hardware as a player, though he was considered an All-Star snub in 2024 after a solid showing. And this season was even better for the left fielder, who hit .262/.324/.436 with a career-high 25 homers and 92 RBI.
Reports indicate that both the Mets and Rangers will take on the entirety of Semien and Nimmo’s remaining contracts in the trade, swapping two hefty deals in an early offseason deal that turned some heads.
