After capturing the WBCA Showcase championship with two impressive wins over previously No. 7 Baylor and Miami, Iowa women’s basketball (6-0) was once again rewarded by the Associated Press (AP) voters on Monday morning. The Hawkeyes continued their climb up in the AP Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll.
Thanks to their performance against the Bears and Hurricanes from Orlando, Fla., Iowa leapt up a whopping eight spots to No. 11 nationally in the Nov. 24 edition of the AP Top 25 poll.

While every player contributed to Iowa’s well-deserved boost in the AP Poll, sophomore center Ava Heiden stood out the most. Heiden notched a double-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and three assists on 7-of-14 shooting against Baylor. Then, the Oregon product added 20 points and six rebounds on a 9-for-11 shooting day against Miami.
As a result of the two dominant showings by Heiden, she earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors.
The Hawkeyes are accompanied by six other Big Ten programs inside the Top 25 poll, including No. 3 UCLA (5-0), No. 6 Michigan (3-0), No. 7 Maryland (5-0), No. 18 USC (2-1), No. 20 Michigan State (4-0) and No. 22 Washington (3-0).

Ohio State (15 points), Nebraska (10 points), and Oregon (2 points) are receiving votes.
Among ranked Big Ten squads, Iowa’s jump was the largest. Conversely, USC fell eight spots after finishing 1-1 last week, with a win over Portland and a last-second loss to then-No. 24 Notre Dame.
As the Hawkeyes enter this week’s slate of games, Iowa has two fairly manageable matchups against mid-major competition with Western Illinois (4-0) on Wednesday and Fairfield (3-1) on Sunday from Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
